Teacher Recruitment & Preparation
- Provide public-private partnerships for science, math and engineering majors and for science and math teachers
- Offer every math, science and engineering major in Arizona universities a state-funded parallel teacher-certification opportunity
- Provide public-private partnerships for science, math and engineering professionals to transition into teaching
- Prepare prospective middle school teachers with a minor concentration in a science/math subject area and increase content knowledge of math, science, and engineering for all elementary and middle school teachers
Teacher Professional Development
- Accelerate the in-service teacher professional development model that the ASU Center for Research in Science, Math, Engineering and Technology (CRESMET) is now building, researching, and refining through grants from the National Science Foundation
- Develop state-funded and required programs of sustained research-based professional development for math and science teachers in all Arizona school districts
- Institute new incentives for math and science teachers to remain in the schools as teacher leaders and create special incentives for teaching in high need schools and rural areas
Public Education
- Create public education campaigns—including a state-funded advertising and marketing campaign— to attract students to science, math and engineering majors and careers in teaching
Mathematicians & Scientists
- Engage more mathematicians and scientists in curriculum development, teacher professional development, and mentoring of students
Accelerated Magnet Academies
- Establish year-round residential Arizona Math & Science Magnet Academy for talented students at each of the state’s four-year public universities
Counseling
- Support school counselors with information and tools to encourage students to take more math and science and consider science and technology careers.
