image AmeriCorps - ASU

The AmeriCorps program is a Service Scholarship opportunity in partnership with UCAN Serve Colorado Campus Compact (Utah Colorado Arizona New Mexico) allows ASU Student Teachers to receive federal tuition vouchers values averaging $2000 for specified hours served in Title 1 school districts.

What are AmeriCorps* member responsibilities?

Step 1:
You must attend a mandatory orientation session (usually held in August and January on your campus)

Step 2:
Fill out initial paperwork (membership contract and enrollment form) and turn in to your campus contact, including a copy of your passport or birth certificate

Step 3:
Turn in your service summary (1 for every service site/supervisor) and signed timesheets on a timely basis every month. Complete 300, 450, or 900 service hours within the United States. You have one year from the start of service to complete 300 or 450 hour service contracts and up to two years to complete a 900 hour service contract.

Step 4:
Work to develop a culture of community service on campus and in the community! Turn in your Exit Form and fill out the online survey.

Good things to know before enrolling:

Once you enroll you cannot cancel your term and you will use one of your AmeriCorps terms (each person is eligible for 2 terms in their lifetime) even if you do not complete your hours.  You have 30 days to change your hourly term if there are slots available.

When done with your service hours you receive an Education Award.  This award is not a “check”, it can be applied only to current or future (7 years to use) tuition costs or can be applied to federal/state student loans.

Basic requirements in order to qualify as an AmeriCorps member are as follows:

  • Members must be 17 years of age; there is no upper age limit.
  • Members must be a U.S. Citizen or legal resident.
  • Members must have graduated from High School or have a G.E.D.
